Hmm. I don't know. I kind of saw this as our world in the near future, rather than a world without Feminism. I think a lot of feminists - or young, would be feminists - if given the choice between fighting for equality or simply becoming men - might choose the latter option, and indeed become the most misogynistic men there are. Total gender fluidity would, I think, set feminism back quite a bit, and reinforce a lot of old-fashioned gender roles. There's a serious lack of FTM fiction anyway - Kozmik Alaska and Trapper John being notable exceptions - and what there is, is pretty much all fun and consensual. I don't think I've ever read a story of forced-masculinisation, but there must be one or two examples out there. Although it does kind of emphasise the point: culturally, we see femininity as inferior and being feminized as a punishment; framing a girl-becoming-male as punishment would be a lot harder. Not impossible of course....
I guess that world never had Feminism.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if girls are force-manned there? Daddy things his daughter is too bitchy and problematic. Boy her. :D
Thanks for this great caption,
