Um... what happened during the depopulation event? While this is an awesome caption - I really like her optimistic, but still somewhat sceptic attitude - it seems weird that 20 years after they still haven't found a way to fix the gender imbalance. I mean girls are still being born, so why hasn't the ration normalized? Or why haven't they already found a way around the problem.
Is this a bioweapon as adaptive as aids so it can't get cured?
I've written about the depopulation event before a few times, and I'm actually working on a full-length story about it. I don't like to give too much away, and at the moment, I'd prefer to leave it to your imagination as to the details of what actually happened. But for some unknown reason, there was a sudden, dramatic drop-off in the number of female births. Understanding and fixing the problem is a lot harder than people might think -in vitro, for example, just didn't work - and so far, encouraging guys to become girls is the best solution to hand.... (There wouldn't be that much of a story if there was a better way of fixing things :) )
