Jennifer's tale

  1. Wow, Rachel, this is your longest one yet! There's a lot to like here. Let me see...

I really liked the transition between the first and second panel; great way to parody a more typical sort of TG caption!

I also liked the call-back in E to one of your earlier captions, the one where the protagonist did have a panic attack. Interesting you should mention testosterone making you "testy." I can tell you from personal experience that when it comes to switching from testosterone to estrogen, it was actually the estrogen that made me kind of bitchy for a few days (that settled down quickly, though).

It's a good description of the protagonist's emotions surrounding the change, which I've come to see is your specialty.

  2. I was quite chuffed with the psych-out at the start, which I think fits well with the protagonist's expressions and posture.
I don't have your experience with hormonal changes. However, I do remember seeing a documentary in which a (cisgendered, female) scientist took testosterone and reported being unable to focus on her work and said that she 'really appreciated why teenage boys act the way they do'. I guess that was my main reference point for that, and Jennifer seems to like that kind of word-play.
    Glad you enjoyed it!

  3. Hm... someone is certainly happy to be a girl :) Even though the first dark clouds have appeared on the horizon.

I really like the descriptions here, especially when she described waking up.

MRAs aren't conservative nuts though. Getting rid of such concepts as chivalry, actually giving men the same rights that women have and trying to do something against domestic violence instead of running one male demonisation campaign after another seems pretty revolutionary to me.

Many MRAs would probably agree with you about toxic masculinity - the thing that screws most men over hardest is other men's need to prove themself the superior alpha. The most worthy mate for females. 80% of all homeless are men and politicians go out of their way to build women-only homeless centers.

On the other hand we have the female darkness thing you pointed out. Jealousy and instinctively seeking security (whatever it may cost for the rest of humanity). On their own both darknesses are bad enough. Together they can crush civilisation.

Maybe some mandatory sex change would really help this idiocy. For both sexes to actually appreciate what the other does and what difficulties they face. And maybe to actually fix the problems instead of making them worse.

Back to the caption. This is really fascinating. I'd love to read a story about Aphrodite Academy. It would be kind of awesome. Thinking about it, did you write any new stuff since your last laptop was stolen? I didn't visit FM that often lately.

Anyway, thanks for this great caption. I can't wait for the next one,
    Beyogi

  4. Hey there!
Glad you dig the caption. The MRA thing is a little tricky - there are obvious differences between men and women - suicide rate, likelihood of being killed or injured in war, etc, though even so, discussing these issues in terms of female oppression of men (as *some* do) just seems profoundly silly. Seems to me that these issues are best seen through a feminist lens as the flipside of the patriarchy, cases where the oppression of women actually works in their favour. There's an interesting piece on this point here: http://stfuconservatives.tumblr.com/post/48662387149

As for whether the MRA movement are conservative? Well, terms like 'conservative' are relative, ill-defined and possibly useless. And as a Brit, most Americans seem hideously right wing to me - Barack Obama, despite being condemned as a 'socialist' in the States, would actually fit quite comfortably into the British Conservative party. I suppose the MRA movement would probably be better characterised as 'libertarian' in the American sense, though don't get me started on *those* guys...
As for the possibility of an Aphrodite Academy story? Hmmm. When I read the suggestion at first I though 'Nah, wouldn't work. Feminisation boarding schools are a total cliche...' but then I started to think '...unless...' so I wouldn't rule it out.
As for further FM stories? Well... I've been ridiculously busy of late, as you might have noticed in the drop in frequency of posting caps, and unfortunately this isn't likely to change soon. I *have* been working on a story though - not based on any previous work - that I think is pretty cool though. But at this rate it'll be sometime in 2017 before I get it out there :C
