Things have changed

  1. One very gorgeous WOMAN/man! Her demure demeanor is tantalizing. Thank you for this post.

Your dialog touches on an interesting concept about how attitudes do change over time, from one generation to the next. In my opinion, the change is today so very rapid. What now constitutes a generation is less than a decade. When I was growing up it felt more like 2 decades at least. It seems as though society itself is changing at a frantic rate.

I see that in my own life as I get older, I have become much more liberal about many subjects including sexuality. I am thankful for that or I would probably loathe my own deep inner desires to spread my wings sexually into areas that still are taboo. While I may feel open-minded about gender, I am still very reserved in sharing those opinions. At some level, I am cowardly, but I am okay with that. Such compromises seem necessary to get by in life.

  3. Clare - attitudes have changed, and attitudes to trans and non-binary people have gone through a radical shift in the past five years or so. And it does seem like things are changing at a faster rate. It's almost like the idea of the Singularity, but as applied to social change rather than technological.
It's interesting you say you've got more liberal as you've aged, the cliche is that people become more conservative, but I've always had doubts about that. If another 'generation' of attitude will come along in another five years or so, who knows what the future could bring?

DAGS - I've never been called Terzy before, but I kinda like it. And yeah, it does sound like a pretty cool way to live. As for how you reach this world? Well, you wait, mostly, but you also do what you can to make it happen. What's that quote? "Change happens first in desire, then in imagination, then in reality?" I've got the first two down, hopefully science will catch up on the third soon enough...

    1. Actually people become more conservative as they age. It's just that society as a whole is pretty quickly liberalizing on certain issues.

So we've basically got two trends that are counteracting each other.

    2. Statistically it's true that older voters vote for the more conservative parties, but the idea that people become more conservative as they age is far from universal - look at Noam Chomsky, or Bernie Sanders, or Jeremy Corbyn. They're all liberal, and all fairly old. And if it was universally true, there wouldn't be any Young Conservatives or Young Republicans, and I suspect the world would be a much better place for it. It's probably more that 40 percent of the population lean left all their lives, 40 percent are conservative all their lives, and twenty percent shift from liberal to the right as they get older.
Of course, it's also possible to go from being liberal to being conservative by staying exactly in the same place and letting society move while you stay still...:)
