  1. Ugh... this is depressing on so many levels. First the situation where you have to turn into a girl to study history - because your only perspectives are taxi-driver or wife.

Than the protag actually doing this. Realizing what he/she has become and still continuing it. Studying fashion as much as history, making an art out of leading guys on and then deciding their worth on the contents of their purse.

It's like she's become the worst kind of woman. Although I can actually see that kind of thing happen in RL. Instead of maybe considering to tone down the problems of capitalism instead people will be forced to change themselvse to actually have some perspective. Terrifying.

  2. Probably not a taxi driver - if google's self-driving cars become a reality (and I see no reason why they wouldn't) taxi drivers are going to be one of the first jobs destroyed. :)
But I don't think the story's depressing, per se. It's a depressing situation, undoubtedly, but for the protagonist herself - she seems to have a good chance of making it in academia, despite the odds against her. And I don't think she has become 'the worst kind of woman' - she's made the best of the choices offered to her, and seems to be at least trying to escape from the gold-digger path career path offered to her.

  3. I really love this one. You have such a realistic point-of-view, very convincing and empowered. Bravo!
