You're right, of course. All I can say is that these stories exist in range of different universes, where different social rules apply. In this one, I suppose it's considered normal to feminize one's son. The term sissy is used, but may not have the same connotation of lower status, or perhaps, people are more willing to 'accept their place' and just accept their lower status...
